When people describe Tim, the first word they use is “generous.” He was compassionate about “doing the right thing,” and shared his experiences, wisdom, organizational skills, and strength with everyone he knew. His stories sometimes became what his family called “Tim-isms,” in that they became larger than life, but they certainly made people smile. He retired in 2014, and thoroughly enjoyed spending more time with his family, traveling with his wife Diane, doing his charity work, working crossword puzzles, clipping coupons, shopping, listening to his favorite music, and managing a busy household. Tim was an honorary emeritus board member of the Urban League of Pittsburgh, a current board member of the Washington County United Way, a dedicated and former member of the Pirate Alumni Association, and a friend of the Holy Family Institute. He was also very involved with the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association where he served on the Executive Committee from 2011-2017. While he served on several committees for the WPGA, he was most passionate about the Scholarship Fund which provides college scholarships for young people who work at local golf clubs.
In order to continue their father's generous legacy, Chuck and Tommy Nettles began the TEN Memorial Invitational in 2020. To date, the TEN Memorial Fund has raised over $200,000 in donations for many of the same charities and scholarships that Tim served with and believed in.
